8th Finglish trip June 2009 #19
California Kanteles plays the Finnish Kantele, a traditional Finnish harp, in the back row are Marja-Leena Aaltonen, Tiina Purtonen, and Pirkko Basctecki with Anita Finifrock and Linda Homer at the front.
Pirkko Basctecki´s (nee´Kartiala) mother wanted to establish a Finnish folk dance group for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Fifty people enrolled in the dance group but it turned out that basically no one knew how to to dance Finnish folk dances. From that group of people California Kanteles evolved.
