11th Finglish trip July 2011 #7
Telluride is a holiday resort for the affluent. The centre of this former mining village is officially protected, including the adjacent Finn Hall, Swede Finn Hall and the Finnish Boarding House. The Swede Finn Hall is used for festivities and is called the Elks Lodge. The other buildings are private residences. ‘Pekkarine House’ is written in tiles on the wall of the house of the shopkeeper Pekkarinen, a leading local citizen. Many Finnish names could be seen on the graves of the Lone Tree Cemetery. Famous Bluegrass Festival and Mushroom Festival are annual events in Telluride.
